Raw chocolate, chia and ginger mousse

Hi everyone! This is just a quick healthy dessert recipe I knocked up in 10 minutes as there’s no cooking required- it’s all raw ingredients. Who said that eating healthy is boring or tasteless? This scrumptious raw chocolate mousse says otherwise.

One of the goals of this blog is to show people that eating healthy can be fun and just as yummy as eating sugar laden cakes! Plus instead of the energy slump or bloated feeling that you get after eating a cake- this dessert actually gives you a great energy boost!

If you are on a sugar free diet, but still want to indulge occasionally or want a guilt free treat now and then this is a quick and easy recipe which will satisfy that sweet tooth.

Raw chocolate is a healthy alternative to commercial chocolate because it hasn’t been pasteurised so is high in many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants!

Chia seeds are packed with anti-inflammatory omega 3 fats which we all need more of these days. The western diet is to high in omega 6 which causes inflammation in the body. Eating chia seeds can even out this ratio and reduce inflammation! When left in the fridge the chia seeds expand in the coconut milk and form a lovely gel like consistency which creates the light and airy texture of mousse, a bit like an aero chocolate yoghurt!

I used stevia to sweeten, which is a healthier alternative to sugar. It is low in calories, doesn’t spike the blood sugar so is great for diabetics and has 200 times the sweetness of sugar!

Add ginger for a spicy chocolate kick.

Really quick, easy, delicious healthy chocolate and ginger mousse recipe!
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 1
  • 3 tbls chia seeds
  • 1.5 cups canned coconut milk including the cream on the top
  • 2.5 tsps stevia
  • ¾ -1 tsp ginger powder
  • 2 tbls of raw cocoa powder
  1. Place chia seeds and coconut milk into mixing bowl
  2. Fold in the raw cocoa powder and then whisk with folk until smooth
  3. Stir in the stevia and ginger powder
  4. Place in fridge for at least 4 hours to allow chia seeds to expand
  5. Remove bowl from fridge and add more ginger or stevia to taste, stir vigorously with a folk until smooth.
  6. Poor into a glass or bowl, sprinkle with ginger powder and serve!
  7. Alternatively you can blend it in a food processor or blender if you want which will create a smoother consistency.
